Green Buildings & Sustainability

CTLGroup’s Architecture + Building Science practice can assist owners in achieving more efficient and sustainable structures. Our building enclosure specialists design high-performance roof, wall, and waterproofing systems for new and existing buildings to reduce energy usage and carbon footprints.

  • Efficient use of energy, materials and resources
  • Solar Reflectance Index testing (SRI) for LEED compliance
  • Environmental product declaration (EDP) for cement
  • Low carbon cementitious materials and concrete mixture designs

CTLGroup has been making the world a greener place—project by project—for over 30 years in several ways:

  • Contributing to the development of ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1 Standard for the Design of High Performance Green Buildings (since 2006)
  • Contributing to the development ASHRAE 90.1 Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings (since 1990)
  • Testifying at the International Green Construction Code Hearings (IGCC) since August 2010 and the International Energy Conservation Code Hearings (IECC) since 2002 to evaluate the topic of renewable energy integration into buildings and on the renewable ready requirements of ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1 on High Performance Green Buildings
  • Helping facility owners maintain energy efficient facilities

Our Capabilities

Our building science architects and engineers can peer-review construction documents for owners prior to construction.  This value-added service allows an independent evaluation of the building enclosure design in the context of established performance criteria.  In-depth peer reviews can include hygrothermal analyses of wall and roof assemblies to model water vapor flow and condensation potential and finite-element analyses to evaluate potential thermal bridging effects.

CTLGroup can commission building envelopes to help new construction and major renovation projects achieve LEED® certification goals and provide additional Quality Assurance to building owners and developers. During the course of construction, CTLGroup can provide on-site observation and ABAA air barrier auditing to help ensure proper workmanship and energy performance of the building envelope.
