Southern Gateway

CTLGroup was retained by HDR to perform a preliminary rigid pavement design for sections of the Southern Gateway Project for the Flour/Balfour Battey team. Scope of work included document review, pavement thickness design using the AASHTO 1993 Guide for the Design of Pavements and the newly released TXDOT ME CRCP design software during the proposal phase. Design comparisons using the two different software packages were conducted for a range of traffic loading conditions and subgrade soil conditions.

Pavement designs were prepared as required over the design life. A Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement was specified for the Southern Gateway main lanes of IH 35 and US 67.
