Calumet Water Reclamation Plant

CTLGroup was engaged by the MWRD of Greater Chicago to evaluate and document the as-built condition of the Lab Building at Calumet Water Plant. CTLGroup evaluated the facility for compliance with the construction drawings and project manual requirements, and to determine the cause of reported water leakage and excessive air exfiltration. Our investigation revealed the underlying weather barrier was discontinuous at its interface between all dissimilar cladding materials including roof-to-wall connections. These discontinuities contributed to water and air leakage problems, water was entering the building on all elevations. Building operations were unable to provide sufficient conditioned air in the winter to overcome the energy lost due to the air leakage.

Our repair scheme included total roof replacement and weather barrier upgrades. CTLGroup created plans and specifications to describe the extensive project scope. We also provided construction observation to ensure a successful repair to the facility. This enabled the owner to properly condition the building year round and provide building occupants with acceptable levels of comfort.
