Structural + Transportation Laboratory

Our Structural and Transportation Laboratory is one of the largest of its kind in the world and is actively seeking a technician to join their team! Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effectively performs and monitors tests in the lab and demonstrates initiative by offering/suggesting alternative procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy;
  • Collects and records data with assistance, investigates unusual test results. Reports conclusions to supervisor/manager/director;
  • Demonstrates teamwork by assisting in other areas within the department and other departments as needed;
  • Fabricate and/or prepare test specimens and test fixtures;
  • Assemble, adjust and calibrate test equipment;
  • Receive and place test specimens in the lab using various equipment;
  • Reads blueprints or other drawings to set up test equipment and build test frames;
  • Install appropriate measuring and data collection equipment;
  • Perform and monitor tests in the lab or field. And implement alternative procedures to enhance efficiency;
  • Demonstrates technical breadth and teamwork by assisting in other areas within the department and/or other departments as needed;
  • Proactively maintains supply and equipment inventory;
  • Keep tools and equipment in working order and facilitate repairs or replacements as needed;
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work environment;
  • Participate in professional development activities in order to maintain and/or enhance work knowledge or skills;
  • Demonstrate awareness of employee safety by performing duties in accordance with company and OSHA guidelines;
  • Maintain high ethical standards by using sound judgment that benefits both CTLGroup and its customers.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Minimum 0-2 years of relevant experience (mechanical, machinist, welding, hydraulics, construction, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Mechanical aptitude;
  • Quick learner;
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with a team to obtain optimum results.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Two year degree in a related discipline (engineering, electronics).

Physical and Travel Demands

  • Some work may be performed in confined spaces and at heights in excess of six feet;
  • Ability to lift and carry 20 to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and to occasionally push/pull up to 100 pounds;
  • Some work is performed in a laboratory environment or in the field where the following conditions may apply: exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, variations in temperature and humidity, fumes and various types of equipment listed above;
  • Climbing may be required;
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever necessary;
  • May require working additional hours;
  • Travel is generally not required for this position.
