Forensic Structural Engineer

Full-Time Positions In Skokie, Illinois (HQ), Washington, D.C., and Texas locations

Structural Engineering + Evaluation

CTLGroup is currently seeking forensic structural engineers to join our Structural Engineering + Evaluation team in our Skokie, Illinois headquarters, as well as our Washington, DC and Texas locations. The candidate must have an interest in investigating and solving problems associated with existing structures and infrastructure, including evaluation of damage from natural and man-made disasters, investigation of structural failures and defects, and assessment and repair of structural deterioration.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Field inspections and testing
  • Conducting laboratory studies
  • Performing engineering analysis, including calculations and computational modeling
  • Preparation of investigation reports
  • Oral presentations
  • Consulting with clients


Education and Licensure

  • Mandatory master’s degree with focus on structural engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or Structural Engineering in a U.S. jurisdiction


  • 3-5 years relevant experience
  • Strong background in structural mechanics
  • Experience with technical computing and widely used business productivity software
  • Business development experience is a plus.


  • Must have interest in investigating and solving engineering problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional attitude, exercise timely and sound judgement
  • Willingness to work independently

Additional Activities

  • Up to 40% travel may be required.
  • Position may require physical exertion, including lifting up to 50 pounds, working in confined spaces, or working at heights in excess of six feet
  • Sitting and using a computer for prolonged periods of time
  • Working in a laboratory environment or in the field under exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, fumes, and variations in temperature and humidity
