CTLGroup, a globally recognized and award-winning consulting engineering and materials science firm headquartered in Skokie, Illinois, is seeking an Engineering Technician for the Structural Evaluations and the Structural Engineering + Mechanics groups. Reporting to the Group Director, the Engineering Technician will assist engineers, scientists and project managers with failure investigations and analysis, historic preservation, structural and architectural condition assessments, repair and rehabilitation, and construction materials evaluation in an office, laboratory or field environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists engineers, scientists and project managers with failure investigations and analysis, historic preservation, structural and architectural condition assessments, repair and rehabilitation, and construction materials evaluation in an office, laboratory or field environment;
  • Will learn various nondestructive testing techniques as well as instrumentation;
  • Effectively performs and monitors tests in the lab or field and demonstrates initiative by offering/suggesting alternative procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy;
  • Collects and records data. Independently investigates unusual test results. Reports conclusions to project manager/supervisor/manager;
  • Proactively maintains supply and equipment inventory;
  • Demonstrates teamwork by assisting in other areas within the department and other departments as needed;
  • Gather tools and equipment for mobilization to the field;
  • Keep tools and equipment in working order and facilitate repairs or replacements as needed;
  • Demonstrate awareness of employee safety by performing duties in accordance with company and OSHA guidelines;
  • Maintain high ethical standards by using sound judgment that benefits both CTLGroup and its customers.

The ideal candidate has:

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Quick learner;
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with a team to obtain optimum results.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Some college coursework;
  • Prior engineering technician experience;
  • Experienced with AutoCAD.

Physical and Travel Demands:

  • Some work may be performed in confined spaces and at heights in excess of six feet;
  • Required to lift 20-30 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on occasion;
  • Required to stand for prolonged periods of time;
  • Some work is performed in a laboratory environment or in the field where the following conditions may apply: exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, variations in temperature and humidity, fumes and various types of equipment listed above;
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever necessary;
  • May require working additional hours;
  • Up to 40% travel may be required.
