Reporting to our Director of Concrete & Cement Based Materials Group, our next Associate Engineer II should have an innate intellectual curiosity and a genuine passion for problem solving.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform project tasks within specified timelines, seek guidance as needed when working on complex issues, and keep appropriate parties informed of progress
  • Perform data reductions, calculations, develop specialized testing setups, revise and approve of standard testing, perform advanced data analysis, and independently investigate unusual results
  • Perform evaluations, surveys, and investigations in the field or laboratory and take appropriate notes, samples and/or photos
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues to attain information, respond to requests and inquiries, and report status of work
  • Assist with the development of proposals and reports related to project work
  • Coordinate with and assign work to support personnel
  • Provide guidance to and mentor technicians or other associates
  • Independently manage and execute tasks for testing and/or consulting projects
  • Monitor work for adherence to CTLGroup’s Quality Management System
  • Research vendors and place orders with manager’s approval for needed equipment and materials
  • Proactively identify areas of learning and participate in professional development activities in order to maintain and enhance work knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrate awareness of employee safety by performing duties in accordance to company and OSHA guidelines
  • Maintains high ethical standards by using sound judgment that benefits both CTLGroup and its customers


Required Education and Experience

  • Completion of a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering, with an emphasis on concrete, cement, or ceramics
  • Three to five years of relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) within 5 years
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Matlab, or other engineering and scientific software

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Completion of a Doctoral Degree in Civil Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering, with a strong emphasis on and advanced knowledge of concrete, cement, and cementitious materials, and experimental development or laboratory testing
  • Experience in construction inspection, materials testing, laboratory work, or related field
  • Familiarity with standards and regulations (ASTM, ACI, AISC, etc.)

Physical and Travel Demands

  • Required to sit and use computer for prolonged periods of time
  • Some work may be performed in confined spaces and at heights in excess of six feet
  • Some work is performed in a laboratory environment or in the field where the following conditions may apply: exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, variations in temperature and humidity, fumes and various types of equipment listed above
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever necessary
  • May require working additional hours
