Sustainability Basics: Site Disturbance and Stormwater Run-Off
Most think of construction sites as inherently dirty or messy places. In the good ‘ole days, the first order of business for a new project was to clear the site.
This meant clearing the site of all debris, of course, but it also typically meant cutting down trees and removing all flora and fauna. Building would then begin on a clean slate, which consisted mainly of dirt. Then with any rain during construction or after the hardscape was in place, water would run off the site. This article explains why minimizing site disturbance and stormwater run-off contributes to a more-sustainable project.
