If you bring up green codes and standards in the construction industry, you are likely to get a consistent response: “What is this going to cost me?”
In the U.S., we are still largely driven by the first costs of projects. Some owners—including government entities, schools and universities—understand life-cycle costs and the fact that paying a little more up front can yield huge cost savings over the service life of the structure.
