Green Design Trends: The New Green Standard
A new standard for the design of high performance green buildings is set to revolutionize the building industry.
Published by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), in conjunction with the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Standard 189.1, Standard for the Design of High Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, is the first code intended commercial green building standard in the country.
Martha VanGeem, PE, LEED AP, principal engineer in building science and sustainability at CTLGroup, is a member of the ASHRAE/USGBC/IESNA Standards Project Committee 189.1 on the design of high-performance green buildings, as well as numerous committees of the American Society of Civil Engineers, ASTM International, the Green Building Initiative and the American Concrete Institute.
She authored an article that appears in the April 2010 issue of Today’s Facility Manager.
