Some tests have yet to be defined. We've been turning thought into practice throughout our history.

CTLGroup features hundreds of standard tests.  We know, though, that your needs may not fit so neatly into a standard test’s criteria.  The scientists and engineers at CTLGroup not only can handle specialized testing, but most of them relish such work.  Many of the tests that are now standard were actually developed in CTLGroup labs, some as many as 95 years ago.  While we pride ourselves as drivers of the industry, we also operate to serve your company's demands.  For our entire history, the needs of our clients have shaped the future of our testing, and we are waiting for your next challenge to keep us moving forward.

Lab Tests

Title Brief Description
AASHTO T 336-11 Coefficient of Thermal Expansion of Hydraulic Cement Concrete

AASHTO T 336 determines the coefficient of thermal expansion of concrete.

details
ASTM C 1549 ? Standard Test Method for Determining Solar Reflectance (ALBEDO) Near Ambient Temperature Using a Portable Solar Reflectometer

Determining the solar reflectance index of materials for LEED NC version 2.2 (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Sustainable Sites Credit 7.1: Heat Island Effect, Non-Roof and Credit 7.2: Heat Island Effect: Roof.

details
ASTM C 177 Steady-State Heat Flux Measurements and Thermal Transmission Properties by Means of the Guarded-Hot-Plate Apparatus

Measures thermal conductivity or thermal resistance of a material or layered system at mean temperatures ranging from below 0?F to above 1000?F. This testing is commonly done for concrete, soils, insulation, and loose fill materials. Two samples are required for one test.

details
ASTM C 531 Standard Test Method for Linear Shrinkage and Coefficient of Thermal Expansion of Chemical-Resistant Mortars, Grouts, Monolithic Surfacings, and Polymer Concretes

This test offers a means to compare the relative linear shrinkage and coefficient of thermal expansion. It may be used for research purposes to provide information on linear changes taking place in the test materials. Other dimensional changes may occur that do not manifest themselves as changes in length.

details
ASTM E 96 Standard Test Methods for Water Vapor Transmission of Materials

Measures water vapor transmission using the desiccant method (dry cup) or water method (wet cup).

details
ASTM F 1869 Measuring Moisture Vapor Emission Rate of Concrete Subfloor Using Anhydrous Calcium Chloride

MVER specification of most floor covering and adhesive companies is 3 to 5 lb/1000 sq ft/24 hr. Used to investigate acceptability of floors to receive floor coverings. Also used to evaluate distress due to moisture, mold/fungus growth.

details
Clinker Burnability and Alkali Volatility Test

To determine the efficiency of chemical combination of raw mix components and/or to determine alkali loss in the clinkering process. Modified FLS method is used, in conjunction with chemical and Microscopic analysis.

details
Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion

Determination of the movement or change in length of material exposed to hot and cold environment for a predetermined length of time.

details
CRD C036 Themal Diffusitity

Measures thermal diffusivity of concrete ? an index of the facility with which a material will undergo a temperature change.

details
CRD C044 Themal Conductivity

Calculates thermal conductivity from measured values of unit weight, specific heat, and thermal diffusivity.

details
Specific Heat

Measures mean specific heat by method of mixtures.
