Structures are like people in one critical way - their health must be monitored as they age to maintain vitality and longevity. We've developed the tools to help our clients give their structures the check-ups they need.

In addition to providing instrumentation and structural monitoring services, CTLGroup has been designing and building sensors and measuring devices for more than 50 years. All CTLGroup sensors are custom designed for specific applications, and built with the highest quality materials and workmanship. All come with calibration sheets and provide NIST- traceable results.

Load Cells

CTLGroup's load cells are custom-designed to suit your physical dimension requirements. Each load cell uses 8 gages, equally spaced around the circumference of the load cell body to eliminate the effects of eccentric loading. Four-conductor, twisted and shielded lead wire greatly reduces electrical noise. The dimensional design also eliminates the need for mating spacer plates required by other load cells to reduce end-effects. Each load cell is individually calibrated in-house to conform to NIST-traceable standards.

Special designs featuring handles or protective covers for surface-mounted mating plugs are available upon request.

Pavement Sensors

CTLGroup has developed a variety of systems that use strain gages, crack detectors and other sensors to measure and track the performance of asphalt and concrete pavements. Several of them are listed below.

Asphalt Strain Gages

CTLGroup's Asphalt Strain Gages are designed to withstand the high temperatures and compaction loads associated with the construction of asphalt pavements. Full-bridge configuration provides higher signal output and reduces cost because no expensive data acquisition or signal conditioning systems are necessary for bridge completion.

Concrete Strain Gages

Embedment strain gages are ideal for measuring dynamic strains in concrete pavements. Full-bridge configuration allows for higher bridge excitation and lower long-term drift. CTLGroup also provides economical quarter-bridge sister-bar gages for measurement projects lasting less than one year.

Multi-Depth Deflectometers

CTLGroup's patented multi-depth deflectometer, SnapMDD, measures loadbearing performance of multilayer strata and pavements. With reusable/readjustable transducers, SnapMDDs install in one-tenth the time and for half the cost of other MDDs, while eliminating serial malfunction.

Compression Gages

Compression gages are ideal for measuring in-situ soil or pavement layer compression. They come in standard 2-in. to 12-in. lengths, with other sizes available at no additional charge.

Real-Time Monitoring Systems

CTLGroup can provide real-time monitoring systems and solutions, in addition to our full range of pavement sensors. Provide us with a specifi cation, or have CTLGroup work with you to develop a specification and test plan to suit your needs.

Lab Tests

Title Brief Description
ASTM E 96 Standard Test Methods for Water Vapor Transmission of Materials

Measures water vapor transmission using the desiccant method (dry cup) or water method (wet cup).

details
ASTM F 1869 Measuring Moisture Vapor Emission Rate of Concrete Subfloor Using Anhydrous Calcium Chloride

MVER specification of most floor covering and adhesive companies is 3 to 5 lb/1000 sq ft/24 hr. Used to investigate acceptability of floors to receive floor coverings. Also used to evaluate distress due to moisture, mold/fungus growth.
