  • What Must Change to Make NYC Crane-Safe
    May 7, 2012

Everything breaks, and we can find exactly how much it takes.

You’ve heard it before.  You feel it under your feet.  Concrete is strong.  Steel is strong.  In fact, just about all building materials are designed to be strong.  But just how strong?  Whether it’s crushing concrete, stretching steel, or twisting bonding adhesives, CTLGroup has spent its entire history helping clients get the most out of their materials and products.  The CTLGroup Physical Test Labs can provide strength testing for any material.  Our capacities extend to 10 million pounds of strength testing, and many of the standard tests used nation-wide were created in these same labs.  When the question is strength and durability, test CTLGroup to push the limits.

details
AASHTO TP 64 ? 03, 'Standard Method of Test for Predicting Chloride Penetration of Hydraulic Cement Concrete by the Rapid Migration Procedure?

This test method uses electrical migration to accelerate the movement of chloride ions into a concrete specimen, and a colorimetric indicator to measure the extent of chloride penetration. An external potential is applied axially across the specimen to force the chloride ions to migrate into the specimen. After a defined test duration, the specimen is axially split and a silver nitrate solution (colorimetric indicator for chloride) is sprayed on one the fresh split surfaces. The chloride penetration depth is measured from the extent of the visible white silver chloride precipitate. Results produced: From this penetration depth, the rate of chloride ion penetration is determined and used to rate the concrete. The results for this test can be used to rate concrete according to the relative ease with which chloride ions can penetrate into the concrete. This in turn gives an indication of the potential for corrosion of reinforcing steel due to chloride intrusion.
