CTLGroup Expands Metallurgical & Mechanical Consulting Services, Welcomes Director and Senior Associate of Structural & Transportation Laboratory

CTLGroup has expanded its Metallurgical & Mechanical Consulting Services with the addition of two experts. James F. Lane, P.E., has joined the firm as Director, and Giuseppe Sammartino has joined as Senior Associate, of CTLGroup’s Structural & Transportation Laboratory Services. James and Giuseppe join Bernie Schulze, Principal Metallurgist, to market, diversify and broaden the firm’s clientele in the areas of structural, metallurgical, mechanical testing and related consulting services. Their combined expertise enhances the consulting capabilities of CTLGroup’s structural/mechanical services. The firm’s Metallurgical & Mechanical Consulting experts provide a multidisciplinary approach to the assessment and evaluation of the structural and mechanical integrity of systems and components in various market sectors, including: Building & Facilities; Energy & Resources; Green Solutions; Litigation & Insurance; Materials & Products; Transportation; and Water & Wastewater. The team consults in the areas of root cause failure analysis, mechanical design, materials selection, and litigation support, servicing clients in all market sectors: private, public and legal.

Mr. Lane has 21 years of consulting experience in materials engineering and failure analysis, with a focus on metallurgy and corrosion. He has expertise in the determination of root causation and problem resolution, as well as extensive experience conducting field and laboratory testing. His background extends to the areas of materials characterization, fractography, metallography and mechanical testing. Prior to joining CTLGroup, Mr. Lane was a principal engineer with a leading metallurgical engineering consulting group. There, he performed materials, corrosion and failure analyses, focusing on stress path analysis and property/structure relationships. Mr. Lane earned an M.S. of Materials Science & Engineering and a Bachelors of Materials Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a licensed professional engineer in Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama and South Carolina.

Mr. Sammartino has over 12 years of experience in the railroad industry, specializing in freight car component design and analysis. He has designed, implemented and managed successful test programs for clients around the world. Mr. Sammartino oversees qualification and product performance testing for the rail/transportation and construction industries. Before joining CTLGroup, Mr. Sammartino served as a Senior Engineer at Standard Car Truck, where he designed and tested railroad truck composites, draft gears and castings, and conducted structural and vehicle dynamics analyses. Mr. Sammartino earned an M.S. and B.S. of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
