John Roller Receives 2012 T.Y. Lin Award from ASCE
John Roller, Principal Structural Engineer, Structural Engineering & Mechanics, at CTLGroup, was selected to receive the 2012 T.Y. Lin Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), along with Dr. Henry Russell (Henry Russell, Inc.), Dr. Robert N. Bruce (Tulane University) and Walid Alaywan (Louisiana Transportation Research Center). They receive the award for their work on the paper “Evaluation of Prestress Losses in High-Strength Concrete Bulb-Tee Girders for the Rigolets Pass Bridge,” published in the PCI Journal, Winter 2011 (view the full article). The selection committee particularly noted that the research led to proposed revisions to the AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications that will allow more accurate predictions of prestress losses.
Roller is a previous recipient of the 2008 T.Y. Lin Award for his paper entitled “Fatigue Endurance of High-Strength Prestressed Concrete Bulb-Tee Girders,” published in the PCI Journal, May-June 2007 (view the full article).
The T.Y. Lin Award was endowed in 1968 by T. Y. Lin, F.ASCE, to encourage the preparation of meaningful papers in the designated field of endeavor.
