Energy Efficiency, Section 7, addresses six major categories: envelope requirements, on-site renewable energy systems, mechanical equipment efficiencies, energy consumption data collection, peak load control and lighting.

Each of these areas has been identified as a critical component in addressing the efficient use of energy in the design of high-performance buildings.

Martha Van Geem, Principal Engineer and head of Building Science & Sustainability at CTLGroup, co-authored this article in the June 2010 ASHRAE Journal supplement, ASHRAE Journal’s Guide to Standard 189.1, with Stephen Kennedy, Tom Lawrence and Richard Lord.
